Group News (hot off the press)

Here is the latest news, from the Alsager U3A Committee. Regular updates will be posted on this web page, so please visit regularly.

For information about group and activity meetings, and how they operate to comply with Covid 19 restrictions. And the impact of recent changes in legislation, as well as local and national restrictions.

On Monday 14th September, National Virus Laws came into effect. Alsager U3A Committee have looked very carefully at how these laws, and their implementation, might affect our use of community venues. We recognise that social interaction in small groups is very important for our members' personal wellbeing. However our primary focus is our members' physical safety.

Therefore, we have made the following decisions. These decisions apply to all Alsager U3A group and activity meetings, with immediate effect. They reflect current government advice, and they apply for the foreseeable future.

  • All group and activity meetings (excluding organised sport meetings, see below) will be restricted to 6 members. This includes any leader(s). This applies for both indoor and outdoor meetings.
  • All indoor meetings must take place in a Covid secure environment. All groups (and their individual participants) must conform to the risk assessment for that group. This includes social distancing rules set by government, and any other rules set by the venue itself.
  • For organised sport meetings (indoor and outdoor): groups such as Table Tennis, Bowls, and Walking, are exceptions to 'The Rule of 6'. However, all these groups must follow the Covid rules of their organising body.

For all current (and prospective) members: you will be excited to learn that many of our group activities are now open.

  • Ancient Greek Language, Bowls, Brush Up Your French, Creative Writing, Cycling, Discussion, Family History, French Self Help, Keep Active to Music, Knitting and Crochet, Photo Editing, Short Story Study, Table Tennis, Talk Times, Ukulele, Walking (at time of writing)
  • If you see the asterisk (*), this means the group has just opened
  • More groups to open (tbc): Badminton, Keep Fit, Painting for Pleasure
  • For more information, visit the groups' section by clicking here
  • Alternatively, contact the committee via

These are exceptional times. But we will do everything possible, to ensure all our members stay connected – and stay safe.
