Alsager Leisure Centre

Everybody has announced that Alsager Leisure Centre and Sports Hub will reopen in their second phase, on 1 August. This will be for bookable gym and exercise classes, not the swimming pool. They will be contacting members with more information. Some other Phase 1 leisure centres will be open on 25 July. Look at the Everybody website for details and to book.

Wearing masks

From 24 July it will be compulsory to wear a cloth face mask or some other form of face covering (scarves, bandanas) while in shops (not bars and restaurants). There are exemptions for children under 11 and those with certain disabilities (physical or mental). If you are exempt on health grounds it is advisable to obtain a letter from your GP to that effect. Asthma UK has a downloadable graphic that you can show on your phone or other device that explains why you're not wearing a face covering (scroll down the webpage to find it).

There will be a £100 fine for non-compliance, but let's not make life difficult for shop workers. And let's not try to shame those not wearing a mask since they may be exempt. (Note that shopworkers do not need to wear masks – imagine having to wear one all day!)

Alsager Community Support Centre is giving away for free locally-made masks – Mondays and Fridays from 10 to 12. Also at Alsager Market on Wednesdays. However, given the new ruling they are likely to be in short supply so please try to source your own mask.

Bus passes

You can now apply for, renew or replace your bus pass online here. You will be required to upload documents as part of the process. Pre-Covid restrictions on use have now been reinstated.
