Wilbraham Arms

With thanks to Alsager Nub News

A post on social media by the new owners stated: "The Wilbraham Arms closed due to the previous tenant leaving, hopefully it will be reopening by Wednesday next week."

It appears the new owners are Debra Fennell and Steve, and they seem well regarded by local residents who say they run a good pub (Facebook).

New office building in town centre?

With thanks to Alsager Nub News

A metal services company has submitted plans to construct a two-storey office building on an existing Alsager town centre car park.  Shaun Clarke, of Clarke Metal Services, has submitted an application to build a two-storey office building on an existing car park, on land to the rear of 52, Sandbach Road South, Alsager near SASH Hairdressing & Beauty.  The proposed office would be a "more modern looking" building in line with Alsager Fire Station across from the site.  Alsager Town Council welcomed the application to bring more economic growth to the town.

The last date for submitting comments on the application is 19th August, application number 21/3868C.

No waiting restrictions on Crewe Road

With thanks to Alsager Nub News

Residents have the opportunity to respond to a consultation on plans to introduce a no waiting restriction on Crewe Road in Alsager.  Cheshire East Highways wants to introduce the restriction to coincide with the pending installation of traffic lights at the junction of Crewe Road and Close Lane, Alsager.  The traffic lights will "upgrade" the existing junction, which is a system of priority working.

The authority's highways team has lodged a consultation in respect of a traffic regulation order to introduce no waiting at any time along Crewe Road, opposite the junction with Close Lane and for a short section down Crewe Road, on the same side as Close Lane, heading towards Radway Green.  The change to the junction also requires the relocation of a bus stop/clearway and the introduction of new double yellow lines on Crewe Road to prevent vehicles parking within the signalised area of the junction.

If you wish to object to the proposed order, or to any details contained in it, or make any other representations, you can do so in writing, and if making an objection you must specify the grounds on which it is made, to Mr R Welch, Cheshire East Highways, Municipal Buildings, Earle Street, Crewe, CW1 2BJ.

Alternatively, email by 19th August.

No charity market

With thanks to Alsager Nub News

Alsager Rotary have held a charity market outside the Alsager Civic for many years, however, given the Covid-19 pandemic, they have decided to switch to a car boot sale this summer.
The car boot sale will take place on both Saturday and Sunday (4th and 5th September – 8am to 2pm) at Hall Farm, Crewe Road, Alsager. This will be Alsager Rotary's first fundraiser for over 18 months.

The cost for interested sellers to attend: cars (£7), small van (£10), large van (£15) and trailers are an extra £5.  To pay in advance email or call Don Longhurst on 01270 884461 and get two free hot drink tokens.  Residents wishing to attend don't have to book.

Youth services

With thanks to Alsager Chronicle

Cheshire East Council has allocated £2m for Crewe youth projects.  However, following their success in attracting £22.9m Town Deal funding for Crewe (which includes youth projects) it has been suggested by a councillor that the £2m earmarked for youth projects should be spread more widely across the borough.  Wouldn't it be great to receive some dedicated funding for Alsager youth projects!

Regent Theatre

With thanks to Alsager Chronicle

The Regent Theatre in Hanley will be holding an open day on Saturday 21 August to celebrate reopening after being closed for 18 months.  There are various workshops (masks, musical theatre, circus), a backstage tour, and a performance.  All are free but tickets must be booked in advance.

Change to bus route

With thanks to Alsager Chronicle

First Potteries has made a change to Service 3 which runs from Hanley to Crewe via Kidsgrove and Alsager.  It will stop operating the 1725 and 1745 trips from Hanley to Radway Green on weekdays.  The company says these are duplicates to the main service and no longer required due to recent capacity increases.
