Bank Corner

Bank Corner reopened last Sunday 2 August. Let's hope that it can become the great meeting place it used to be when it first opened.

Local doctors

Dr El-Taji from the Cedars Medical Centre is retiring at the end of August. He first joined the practice on 1 January 1996 and I am sure many of us have benefited from his care. I know I have. Cedars reception will collate any notes and cards and present them to him in an album on his last day. I am sure we all wish him well in his retirement and thank him for his care.

Dr Prowse of the Merepark Medical Centre got married last year but has only now got around to changing her professional name which, from now, will be Dr Richardson. Congratulations.

Library anniversary

Alsager Library is celebrating its 50th year in the current building (so it must have opened in 1970), and staff are looking for people to share their memories and photographs of the old library and the opening of the new one. Anyone with stories or photos to share can email them to jude.johnson@cheshireeast.gov.uk.

Radway Social Club

Radway Green Sports and Social Club is reopening on 10 August. Revised opening hours are:

Monday-Thursday 6-11
Friday-Saturday 4-11
Sunday 12-3 and 7-11

Lost property

Apparently many people do not realise that Alsager Community Support Centre run a lost and found service, so please spread the word. Do contact them if you have lost anything, or hand in anything you find which you think has been lost. They have lots of items still waiting to be claimed, and they keep small items a long time.

Amazon scammers

Lots of people in this area are being called by fraudsters claiming to be from Amazon, saying that their Prime payment has failed and asking for bank information. I have been phoned by them three times today already! Do not fall for it. HANG UP.

Young people in Alsager

Alsager Partnership has a Youth Forum through which it endeavours to support young people in Alsager. At present they are promoting the Alsager A-Z summer photo challenge for young people under 18 living in Alsager. Deadline for submission is 30 August. Do encourage your grandchildren to participate. You can find full details here.

The youth leaders at Christ Church want to have Alsager designated as a "youth friendly town" having seen that a majority of young people "don't feel welcomed, appreciated or valued as part of the community". One of the problems is that some people are too quick to judge all young people because of the thoughtlessness or selfishness of a few. This is known as prejudice. Let's give them a break. Most of our young people are kind, helpful and friendly.
