Alsager Library is reopening on Monday 6 July. Cheshire East says:
There will be restricted opening hours and limited services, and Covid-19 secure measures will be in place to make the library as safe as possible.
You will be able to return, renew, browse and borrow books, audio books and DVDs. Our friendly staff will be here to help you. Plus, you can still borrow e-books, e-magazines and e-audio books, and use our e-resources section including online newspapers. We will continue to offer online activities on Facebook.
Our public computers and Council Customer Service enquiries services will be available, but must be booked in advance. Some services will be unavailable to begin with including reservations, local studies materials, library events and meeting room bookings.
The Civic is still closed, but is putting on the occasional online live event. The next one is on Saturday 11 July, 20.30 – 22.00, and is Ibiza Club Classics. The Civic says:
We are running live events online to compensate for the events we have had to cancel this year, so you can stream straight to your living room, kitchen or garden... the possibilities are endless.
We've put a lot of thought in to these in order to tick all the boxes and offer something unique and spectacular.
They are free to attend, however we are hoping to raise money for 3 local based charities who usually utilise the Civic during the months we have been closed and therefore are struggling. We have set up a crowdfunding page that we will share in the event and on our facebook page, so keep your eyes peeled for that too.
The event is supported by Alsager Partnership and you can find more details here :
The Leisure Centre is still closed but Everybody is opening tennis courts at Alderley Edge and Nantwich. See here for details.
The Facebook members zone gives access to free online exercise classes
Many of these areas are to be opened from 6 July, including at Milton Park.
The level crossing by the station has been closed following an accident. (I have seen one estimate of 12 weeks closure for repairs while another says it will be open Friday 3 July!) Network Rail have repaired steps to the footpath over the railway to ensure pedestrians can safely cross. Update lunchtime Friday 3 July – I have just been to have a look and the barriers are up so hopefully no further problems.
Following their successful appeal, the developers who want to build five warehouses on the site by The Plough (Radway Green North) have now submitted their plans for the design and appearance of the site and buildings. Comments must be submitted by 23 July. Application reference is 20/2326C. Use the Cheshire East planning website.
Walking maps for The South Cheshire Market Towns are now available, free, from the Library, Post Office and Alsager Paint and Paper DIY Centre (courtesy of Alsager Partnership).
The trail covers Alsager, Sandbach, Middlewich, Holmes Chapel and Congleton and is 40 miles in total, but can be walked in sections (with some circular routes included).
