The Photo Editing Group comprises a small number of Members who share a common interest in manipulating the results of the photographs we take.
Prior to the Corona Virus pandemic, we met weekly at the Alsager Fire station.
As a result of the various constraints of the pandemic this facility was no longer available and also did not enable the social distancing that is an important element in controlling the virus.
However, we were determined to continue and with the technical skills and efforts of the Group Leader, Arthur Harding, we were able to continue to meet on a Monday afternoon via Zoom.
This has resulted in a very successful solution, so much so that we are considering continuing with this format, but perhaps we will be supplementing our online meeting with a meet up at a café when conditions permit.
Meeting via Zoom has delivered a number of advantages. We can share screens so that everyone can see the same screen. Work that we undertake in preparation for the meeting can then be seen by all the attendees and techniques demonstrated and seen by everyone.
Our group uses a common photo editing software package so that we can share a common understanding of how to perform the various functions that we explore and to help us all develop our skills. This results in an efficient use of time as there is no time spent accommodating a variety of functions that different software packages would introduce.
Our objective is to support each other to develop our skills in photo editing.
We can accommodate a couple of additional members, so if you would think you would like to try, contact us by contacting the U3A
In order to create a level playing field we all use Affinity Photo for editing, although references are often made to other software such as Lightroom & Photoshop.
Typical examples of our work are shown alongside:

Group capacity has a maximum of 15 members.
This is a group who are very keen on Photography and how to amend photos using software called Affinity Photo.
We are also keen on social events and have an open approach to our virtual meetings covering many aspects of Photography and keeping a sense of humour as well.
As this is an Improvers course there is a requirement that each member must have their own copy of Affinity Photo by Serif which costs approx. £40.00.
The new member must also have a good knowledge of Windows 10 or Apple Mac.
Their laptop/PC must also be capable of running Zoom and have working speakers and microphone.
