Leighton Hospital is due to open a new Emergency Department in the next few weeks. It will include an isolation facility for coronavirus patients.
Mid Cheshire Hospitals Foundation Trust (MCHFT) Chief Executive James Sumner predicts medics could be dealing with up to 100,000 people by next spring, and he says the hospital's ED extension will be welcomed to cope with an increasing demand fuelled by an increase in "post-pandemic illness" and an increasing population.
Of the last year, the hospital chief said: "We kept our normal NHS work going as much as we could, but the virus took over for a significant time. We had to postpone planned and elective treatment because of the risks."
Annual toy appeal

Organisers of an annual toy appeal are urging people in Alsager and the surrounding area to think of others this year and buy an extra Christmas present to donate. Teresa and Don Longhurst who run the Christmas Appeal on behalf of Alsager Community Support are asking people to think of others who may be going through difficult times. They say the end of the furlough scheme and the withdrawal of the £20 universal credit uplift may add to families going through tough times. Last year the appeal gave a bag of toys and gifts to 200 children belonging to 90 families in need.
Teresa said: "This year we anticipate the need will be greater with the end of the furlough scheme and the withdrawal of the £20 universal credit uplift. We would like to thank everyone in advance for thinking of this appeal and for the donations about to be made."
They are asking people to take unwrapped gifts to Alsager Community Support Centre near Alsager Civic weekdays 9:30 am – 12:30 pm, Monday 29th, Tuesday 30th November. Wednesday 1st December to Friday 3rd, Monday 6th to Thursday 9th or to Alsager Scout Hall – (Cedar Avenue, ST7 2PQ) on Friday 11th 9:00 – 10:30 am.

Climate change actions by Town Council

Alsager Town Council has resolved to undertake to reduce the council's carbon footprint by a agreeing to a number of measures put forward by Cllr June Buckley.
These include having a plant-based dish available at every council sponsored event, all town council sponsored events to use locally produced (not locally bought) products where possible and the Civic Manager to actively encourage all hirers to have plant-based options and a range of menus available.
The town council has also agreed to investigate and report back on the costs and issues involved with the installation of Photovoltaic Solar Panels at the Civic Centre and The Institute.
Cllr Buckley, an avid climate change supporter, says making small changes to our lives and how we live will impact on the future and help us protect our environment and world for generations to come. She says changes like switching to electric or hybrid cars, installing solar panels, eating less meat, upcycling wherever possible, having ponds in our gardens, using environmentally friendly products and switching to a green energy provider can all help.
Alsager lights switch on

Alsager's Christmas lights switch on event, this year organised by Alsager Round Table, will take place on Sunday 28 November. The fairground and stalls will be more spread out this year to make them more covid safe. The road will be closed from midday to midnight.
Christmas bin collections
Cheshire East has announced its Christmas schedule.
There will be no garden waste collections from Wednesday 22 December to Monday 3 January 2022. Collections will resume as normal on Tuesday 4 January.
Other changes will only affect those households that have their household waste or recycling collections on a Monday or a Tuesday.
-There will be no recycling or black bin collections on Monday 27 December (Christmas Bank Holiday), Tuesday 28 December (Boxing Day Bank Holiday) or Monday 3 January, 2022 (New Year's Day Bank Holiday)
-If your black bin was due for collection on Monday 27 December, it will now be collected on Thursday 23 December
-If your silver bin was due for collection on Monday 27 December, it will now be collected on Wednesday 22 December
-If your black bin was due for collection on Tuesday 28 December, it will now be collected on Wednesday 29 December
-If your silver bin was due for collection on Tuesday 28 December, it will now be collected on Friday 24 December
-If your black bin was due for collection on Monday 3 January, it will now be collected on Friday 31 December
-If your silver bin was due for collection on Monday 3 January, it will now be collected on Thursday 30 December.
Cheshire East parks and green spaces survey

Cheshire East Council is conducting a consultation on its parks and green spaces strategy. In particular it is looking at how to use spaces to enhance health and wellbeing, and biodiversity. The consultation closes on 28 November, and the survey can be completed here. It just takes five minutes.
Buses

Alsager Town Council conducted a survey to evaluate potential use of buses at the weekend. The survey, completed by more than 200 residents, revealed that at least half (108) would use the 317 and 318 bus services, axed last year, if they were reinstated at weekends. It would cost more than £30,000 a year to run the 317 bus service on a Saturday.
Alsager Gin and Beer Festival

The Alsager Gin and Beer Festival, held in September this year, raised £3,200, which is being donated to Alsager food bank and to the Alsager surgeries.
Police investigations into Cheshire East Council

You may remember that under the previous Conservative administration of Cheshire East there were several police investigations into a number of allegations of improper conduct at the council. These started in 2015 and related to land transactions in Middlewich and Crewe, awarding of contracts, allocation of council funding, and manipulation of air quality data. The last of these investigations has now been concluded, with a file of evidence being sent to the CPS. The CPS has reviewed the material and decided to take no further action.

Alsager East – 25 new cases, down 5, rolling rate 384 (was 460)
Alsager West – 17 new cases, down 12, rolling rate 286 (was 471)
Cheshire East rolling rate is 382 (was 439), England is 346 (was 413)
