Poetry, Modern and Contemporary

• Cost: The membership has to cover the cost of the hire of the venue and this is paid to the Leader on a termly basis at the beginning of each term.

The primary focus of this new group will be to explore modern and contemporary poetry, written in English, but with occasional poems in translation. This would not preclude favourite pre-20th C. poems being read to the group and discussed.

Suggested/provisional format, each meeting a topic agreed in advance, perhaps a single poet, or small number of poets, perhaps a theme or a school or movement in poetry or even a particular poetic form, sonnet, villanelle, haiku, etc. From time to time members might wish to take responsibility to provide some minimal input to a meeting’s agreed focus, perhaps finding information on a topic or finding a poem by a nominated poet that they might read to the group and then discuss.
